April 30, 2019. Build 7.10.258.616 released

In all versions:

1. In rare cases, infinite looping could occur in the process of disconnection after reception, as a result of which the connection did not break. Fixed.

October 29, 2018. Build 7.10.257.615 released

In all versions:

1. Added the capability to automatically activate call recording after manually picking up an incoming call (including situations when IP telephony is used).

2. In some cases, the T.38 protocol would be enabled for incoming calls in spite of being disabled in the account settings. This caused the call to be terminated. The issue has been resolved.

3. Fixed the issue with the Message Manager that occurred when the user attempted to open a folder while a voice message was being played.

4. The OpenSSL library has been updated to improve the compatibility with some SMTP servers and Windows 10.

Fixed a number of minor bugs.

March 21, 2017. Build 7.9.255.613 released

In all versions:

1. You can now enable two-dimensional coding (MR) separately during fax transmission and reception. This can accelerate the reception and transmission of black-and-white faxes, but significant line noise can lead to greater than regular fax distortions compared with one-dimensional coding (MH). In order for two-dimensional conding to work, both parties need to support it.

2. Regrouped the parameters on the IP telephony account settings tab. New settings added. In particular, the "Registration expiry, s" parameter lets you change the re-registration interval, which is sometimes required for some SIP servers.

3. To simplify the work in the softphone mode (intended for making voice calls using IP telephony supporting fax reception and transmission), some changes were made to the user interface of the main window and some tips were added.

November 2, 2016. Build 7.8.253.611 released

In all versions:

1. Added the support of speech recognition modules. This capability can be used in remote control scripts for performing specific actions depending on recognized words. The feature requires Windows Vista or a newer OS with Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 installed.

2. When using text-to-speech conversion (TTS mode) along with regular text files (*.txt), you can use files of special formats (*.xml and *.vxml) that offer more flexibility in converting text to speech. These files can be used as voice replies and messages, including those used for remotely controlling answering machines.

3. Added the support of T.38 redundancy. When this mode is enabled, each new T.38 packet will contain data from older packets in case some of them got lost. This will increase transmission reliability, but will also result in more data being transmitted.

4. Added the following parameters to the SET_OPTION script operation:
GroupCmd_On/GroupCmd_Off – allow/prohibit the use of command groups instead of a single command.
SpeechRecognition_On/SpeechRecognition_Off – allow/prohibit speech recognition.

5. Added a new %SRResult variable for answering machine remote control scripts. It is used for storing the latest recognized voice command.

6. Fixed a bug that occurred during the reception of fax messages over the T.38 protocol when some packets got lost.

7. When using IP telephony, a notification about error 31 was occasionally shown after the start of the program. Fixed now.

May 16, 2016. Build 7.7.250.608 released

In all versions:

1. Now if IP telephony is used, the 'Split dialing command into several commands if total number of symbols in number exceeds' parameter under the 'Transmission - Dialing - Advanced' tab is ignored.

2. The program uninstaller broken in the previous build is now fixed.

March 31, 2016. Build 7.7.249.607 released

In all versions:

1. A VoIP-related issue arising from use of national characters (other than basic Latin characters) in the PC name is now fixed.

2. Files are signed with new digital signatures to comply with new security requirements in Windows 8, 8.1 and 10.

January 18, 2016. Build 7.7.248.604 released

In all versions:

1. When using IP telephony now speakerphone mode is automatically enabled while dialing a number without sending a message (and automatically disabled when the call is over), except in the case of real-time message review mode (call screening) being active.

2. Failed tasks sometimes were not displayed in the Scheduler. This has been fixed.

December 22, 2015. Build 7.7.247.603 released

In all versions:

1. Improved compatibility with Windows 10 (as well as Windows 8 and 8.1). You will now be able to send faxes both from traditional programs (desktop apps) and Windows Store apps (also known as Metro-style apps). However, when you print to the VentaFax “virtual printer” from such apps, it will generate files that do not contain a transparent text layer.

2. You can now use integrated Windows 10 tools (Microsoft OCR Library for Windows Runtime) for optical text recognition.

3. If VentaFax was running during Window shutdown, it occasionally generated an error message. This has been fixed.

In multi-line versions:

1. When a task was scheduled through the command line, no line by number routing rules were used. In some cases, these rules also worked incorrectly when tasks were scheduled in other ways. This has been fixed.

Fixed a number of minor bugs.

In all versions:

1. Added a possibility to generate scheduled delivery queue from comma-separated text files (*.CSV).

2. Added the support of voice functions in voice GSM modems by Huawei (tested with Huawei E173, but may work with other models from the same manufacturer).

3. Added the support of IMS-based VoIP servers, including Caller ID support (tested on a server of the Maxifon provider, Belarus).

4. Fixed a bug in the Scheduler that caused the name of the message file name to be ignored during the creation of a new selection.

In Home versions:

1. Added the support of one-pass scheduling using recipients’ details from the phone book or a CSV file, like it happens in Business versions. In the Home version, this feature is demonstrative in nature: in comparison with the Business versions, the size of the schedule here is limited to three tasks.

Fixed a number of minor bugs.

December 17, 2014. Build 7.4.237.590 released

In all versions:

1. To convert text to speech (TTS), you can now use the new free Microsoft Speech Platform SDK 11 (supporting 26 languages) in addition to Microsoft SAPI 4 and 5.1 platforms.

To do that, you need to download the 32-bit (x86) version of the platform (the x86_SpeechPlatformRuntime\SpeechPlatformRuntime.msi file) from Microsoft.com or our site. Apart from that, you need to download and install the necessary voice packages from Microsoft’s website.

(Please note that we use the 32-bit version of the platform for the 64-bit family of Windows operating systems. If some of your other applications require a 64-bit version of the platform, you can install both, since they won’t conflict with one another.)

2. The new VentaFax virtual printer generates fax messages with a “transparent” text layer. Such a message can be easily found by a text fragment using standard Windows search tools.

3. The resolution of outgoing fax messages has been adjusted in the new virtual printer.

4. The number of pages is now displayed on the thumbnails of received multi-page fax messages.

In Home versions:

1. Both incoming and outgoing fax messages can now be stored in the PDF format.

In Business versions:

1. When creating a delivery schedule using command line parameters, you can now use the /pb:<phonebook name> key. It will schedule tasks for all recipients listed in this phonebook.

Fixed a number of minor bugs.

In all versions:

1. Faxing with industrial Siemens/Cinterion MC 52i-module based GSM modems is now supported.

2. Fixed an Internet-telephony related bug that caused disconnect after multiple switching from voice to fax mode and back while using G.711a codec.

Fixed a number of minor bugs.

July 22, 2014. Build 7.3.227.568 released

In all versions:

1. The program can now display new fax messages as thumbnails right in the main application window. Clicking a thumbnail will open the corresponding message in the Message Manager.

2. The Message Manager now features a “New Faxes” virtual folder containing unread incoming fax messages.

3. We have slightly changed the algorithm of searching for a phone number in the names of documents sent to the VentaFax “virtual printer”. Previously, a phone number was a sequence of characters between the first and the second # sign. From now on, it will be a sequence of characters between the first and the last # sign. This will allow users to specify phone numbers containing one or several # signs (sometimes used by alternative communication providers) in the names of their documents. For instance, to pass number 497813364585#001 to the program, the user will have to name the document something like fax#497813364585#001#.docx.

4. Fixed a bug that caused the answering machine parameters to be redefined incorrectly in some cases.

5. Fixed the connection termination procedure when using the SIP protocol. As the result, the connection termination event (“phone hung up”) is detected more correctly in case of some SIP service providers.

Fixed a number of minor bugs.

2. Now you can disable country/area code autofill when adding new records to a phone book.

In Business versions:

1. Now you can display "Lines", "Initial priority", "Current priority" and "Information Header" columns in the delivery schedule.

Fixed a number of minor bugs.

January 23, 2014. Build 7.2.221.553 released

In all versions:

1. From now on, the name of an incoming message file can include the caller’s name if it was sent during the call or found in the phonebook by the phone number.

2. While redefining voicemail parameters, you can now change the number of rings to sound before the program takes the call.

3. Added the "Monitor incoming calls" parameter. When this option is enabled, the program will "hear" incoming calls as if the auto-answer mode were enabled, but will not take them. By default, this option is enabled for Internet telephony and disabled for regular telephony.

4. During manual fax transmission (not scheduled), it was impossible to change or hide the header in the Message Wizard. Fixed.

5. Fixed the problem with incorrect display of the schedule when the left-side navigation panel ("tree") was disabled.

6. It is now possible to set "Default time mask" and "Telephone Type" options for all imported records when importing data to the phonebook.

In Business versions:

3. When using IP telephony now:

- DTMF signals can be transmitted as inband DTMF signals and signals compliant with the RFC 2833 standard;

- users can now start recording a conversation by clicking the “Record” button in the main window;

- in the manual mode, both the calling and the called parties can send fax messages to one another;

- at the beginning of fax transmission or reception over the T.38 protocol, the user will hear typical fax machine sounds. In the past, users accustomed to hearing these sounds when working with regular telephony or the G.711 codec often got confused;

- in the manual mode, not only can the calling party send fax messages to the called party, but also receive messages from the latter.

Fixed a number of minor bugs.

5. A new parameter allows you to interrupt an answering machine greeting by receiving the "*" tone.

6. A new parameter enables you to generate the "*" tone command before sending a fax or a voice message. Many answering machines (and now the new version of VentaFax as well) interrupt the answering machine greeting upon receiving this command.

7. The Message Manager allows you to merge several faxes into one.

8. Now you can save a multi-page fax message from the Message Manager in the TIFF format both as a single multi-page file and several single-page files.

9. In Message Manager, you can now convert a fax message in draft quality (204*98 dpi) to the standard resolution (204*196 dpi).

In Business versions:

August 9, 2006. VentaFax 5.71 released

New functions have been added.

In all versions:

1. It is now possible to edit not only cover pages but also fax headers. Create your own trademark header, and it will be easy for your recipients to pick out your fax from among a multitude of others.

2. Now the header can also be used for faxes transmitted by e-mail.

3. The ability to automatically or manually sort personal folders has been added to Message Manager.

4. A new “Sender” field (for outgoing faxes) has been added to the Log Book.

5. If you often use a telephone calling card when dialing a number, now you can easily change the card by clicking on the Card image in the main application display.

6. New command line options /cp: and /ntX: have been introduced, enabling you to specify a cover page and accompanying text comments.

7. A command line option /ms[-] has been introduced. Launching the program with this option puts the program into ‘transmission with manually-established connection’ mode. After launching with such an option any printing to the VENTAFAX printer will result in fax transmission, as with fax transmission in manual mode without dialing a number, but without the display of additional dialog windows.

8. A new command line option /pr: has been added which establishes starting priority for tasks entered in the schedule.

9. It is now possible to use not only digits (telephone numbers) but also text when filtering lists. In this case the entered text will be compared against the Caller ID Name of the incoming call.

10. A new “Pages” field has been introduced to the Scheduler, which displays the number of transmitted pages of a fax (disabled by default).

In Multi-Line versions:

1. Easy line-selection capability when transmitting in automatic mode has been added to the Message Wizard.

3. Several answering machine remote control scripts that employ TTS mode are added.

4. A duplicate search feature is added to the Phone Book. Now you can find entries with the same phone or fax numbers.

5. Now it is possible to filter the Log Book reports by type of call as well.

6. The Message Manager's built-in editor allows inserting a text with any selected zoom factor, not only with 1:1 zoom factor, as in earlier versions.

7. The Message Manager now allows sorting the file list in reversed order and saves the size and position of this list.

8. Opening the Message Manager from the Transmission window now opens the page displayed in the Transmission window and not the first page, as in earlier versions.

December 28, 2004. VentaFax 5.54 (Build 23) Released

Added new features.

All Versions:

1. If the document's filename contains two # characters, the characters between them are interpreted as the receiving fax phone number. For example, printing the FAX#2128506#.DOC file on the VentaFax virtual printer opens the Message Wizard (or the message transmission window) with the 2128506 number pasted to the Number field. The same operation with the FAX#1(800)3245490#.DOC file places "1" in the Country code filed, "800" in the Area Code field and "3245490" in the Number field.

2. The limitation on the Note field length in the cover page templates is removed.

3. Several errors are fixed, including the MS Outlook Address Book read error that resulted in the "Interface not supported" message.

Added new features.

All Versions:

1. Several new voice command sets are introduced.

2. New call registration parameters are added that enable independent displaying and pronunciation of identified phone numbers separately for incoming and outgoing calls.

3. A new "Print" action is added to the list of possible actions after reception. It provides a selective print-out of faxes (in the Business versions only).

4. Now you can copy the data from the MS Outlook Address Book to a VentaFax phone book at a single click of the mouse.

5. A new "Do not convert telephone number" parameter is added to the "Transmission - Dialing" tab. It is useful when you operate via a mobile phone.

6. A new parameter is added to the answering machine remote control scripts for managing the telephone line silence detection.

7. Now the program can automatically adjust the DRON/DROF time frames according to each ring type timing when using the distinctive ring services. Furthermore, now you can set the minimum pause between the successive rings (in a number of cases it influences the correct detection of the type of a call).

8. Added new LogBook filtering criterion: incoming call type (ring pattern).

The Multi-Line Versions:

1. A new /LINE= command line option is added to specify the number of the telephone line which parameters are to be changed.

Juny 8, 2004. VentaFax 5.5 (Build 19) Released

Added new features.

All Versions:

1. Added support of V.34 fax (Super G3) protocol that provides facsimile message reception and transmission rate up to 33600 bps. To establish a V.34 fax connection, both receiving and transmitting side must support this mode. By now, modems that support the V.34 fax protocol (not to be confused with the V.34 data transfer protocol) have not gained wide acceptance.

2. Added new feature: now the program can automatically switch the number of rings the modem answers on according to the selected time mask.

3. Now you can not only add, but also overlay the information header on the page to be transmitted. In this case the page length does not increase.

4. Added support of scanners with automatic paper feeding mechanism.

5. Now the facsimile message to be transmitted can consist of the cover page only.

6. The Log Book: added new facsimile message preview instrument (the "View - Fax Preview" menu).

7. Added new feature: typing-in the name of the received facsimile message when printing received faxes automatically.

8. Now each phone book entry can contain the priority information. For example, if you create the mailing list from such a phone book, the higher priority tasks are delivered first.

9. The syntax of answering machine remote control script language is significantly expanded. Added usage of variables and conditions.

The Business Versions:

1. Received messages can be redirected to the specified telephone number.

2. Added new feature: playing individual greeting announcements when delivering messages.

January 12, 2004. VentaFax 5.4 (Build 18) Released

Added new features:

All versions

1. Now you can transmit a facsimile message with the cover page.

2. The Message Manager: added cover page creation and editing feature.

3. Besides two-line fax header, one of the single-line headers can be used.

4. Added new feature: setting the minimum and maximum duration of signal and pause for various ring patterns. The only modems that this feature concerns are those that transmit ring pattern information in the form of the time frame (DRON/DROF).

5. Added new option: the "new message" attribute can be altered in the Log Book.

6. The Message Manager: added current page transmission feature.

7. Now remote control scripts can be applied not only to incoming calls, but also to outgoing calls. To do that, you need to select a script file (*.VFA) as the file intended for sending out (for example, by scheduling the task for automated delivery).

8. Both time and day of the week of message reception are pronounced when playing back messages in a remote message retrieval session.

October 16, 2003. VentaFax 5.3 (Build 17) Released

Now VentaFax family includes multi-line program versions.

Added new features:

All versions

1. Spanish and Italian interface localization files included in the installation archive. Thanks to Dalik Garmiza (spanish) and Antonio Del Bello (italian).

2. Date and Fax ID (CSI) can be added to a received message name. In voice versions the caller's phone number can also be added if it was delivered.

3. Added Agere modems support.

4. The "Incoming call…" window, when enabled, does not become active. Now this window can be minimized. The program remembers its last state. When minimized, the caller's phone number is displayed in the window titlebar.

5. In case if the caller's phone number is found in a directory, both his name and organization are displayed.

6. Added new /recon and /recoff command line options. Starting the program with the former option starts the conversation recording, starting the program with the latter option stops the recording.

7. Added new %Name and %NP operators to the "Action After Reception" option (in the "Subject" and "Message body" fields). The %Name operator substitutes the caller's name found in a directory on the identified phone number. The %NP operator substituted the caller's name or phone number if the name is absent.

8. Added audible indication of the "voice-like signal detected" event. By default, this feature is disabled.

The Business version

1. Various types of answer can now be set for each type of call in the Distinctive Ring mode.

2. Added "Put into the specified folder" action to the "Action After Reception" list.

May 16, 2003. VentaFax 5.3 (Build 16) Released

Added new features:

The Business Version

1. Added automated schedule purge feature to keep the schedule from expanding indefinitely.

All Versions

1. Added plug-in support. The package now includes the informer.dll demo plug-in together with its source code. In the Home versions of VentaFax, the plug-in functionality is limited and is intended for test purposes only.

2. Added automatic registration of telephone calls mode. The snoop mode (connection to the telephone line without going off hook, supported by certain modems only) allows automatic conversation recording and identification of phone numbers dialed on telephone extensions.

3. Added logbook backup feature.

4. The Windows Address Book is now accessible both for reading and writing.

5. The MS Outlook address book can now be displayed as the VentaFax directory in read-only mode.

6. The Message Manager now allows deletion of selected pages in multipage documents.

7. Added new remote control script sample file 2MAILBOX.VFA that allows creating of two or more voice mailboxes.

8. If your addressee has several phone numbers you can list them all separated with semicolons, for example, 1234567;1234568. The program dials 1234567 first, and if the number is busy, it then dials 1234568. This feature works with regular phone number dialing and with message transmission, including scheduled delivery. Repeat dialing mode must be enabled.

9. Added new /sa and /sm command line options. These modifiers force the program to send out the message with or without dialing the phone number by the modem, respectively.

10. Added GTW V.92 Voice Modem support.

11. Added parameters that adjust the duration of tones in tone mode and flash duration in voice mode.

12. Added parameter that disables real-time message review until answering machine announcement playback is completed.

November 26, 2002. VentaFax 5.2 (Build 14) Released

Added new features:

1. Added automatic notification of incoming messages by email feature (the Reception - Automatic - Actions After Reception tab). In the Home version, only the notification on received messages can be sent. In the Business version the message file itself can be forwarded. In the Home version, notifications are sent of every message received. In the Business version various filtering criteria can be used and different notification rules can be set. For example, you can forward incoming facsimile messages to one address and incoming voice messages to another.

2. Added Windows XP Themes support.

3. Added new "Zoom page width" fax zoom factor in the Message manager.

4. Added new /as[-] command line option. Starting the VentaFax with this option forces the program to schedule tasks automatically. When the program is loaded with this option, printing of any file on the VENTAFAX printer will create a new task in the schedule. Other task parameters (to, phone number, time mask) are set by means of corresponding command line options. This option is designed for system programmers for joint using of VentaFax with other programs.

5. You can now specify files of any type in the command line options when scheduling tasks. Non-facsimile and non-sound files will be converted to fax format prior to scheduling. Batch files also may contain links to files of arbitrary types. As a result, the syntax of file-specifying /f: option was extended. In the absence of any filename, the previous file will be used. Thus, if the non-facsimile file was specified in the previous line of the batch file, the name of the pre-converted file will be used. This innovation speeds up the scheduling of multiple tasks.

6. Added new /aa- command line option for disabling the adaptive answer mode and /aaf, /aad, /aa1 and /aa2 options for disabling one of the adaptive answer types (fax, data, adaptive modem answer (type 1 or type 2)).

7. Added new "Send by Email" button in the "Modem - Interacting with Modem - Modem Activity Logging" tab. This button opens the new message creation window of your default mail program with the modem log file already attached.

8. Added new options to the "If Page Doesn't Fit Paper Size Then" parameter group in the "Printing - General" tab. This allows more flexibility of printing the facsimile documents.

9. Recording of a voice message in the auto-answer mode now stops not only on busy signal detection, but also on detection of silence in the telephone line. This is useful for telephony switches that do not play short tones in the line after the caller hangs up.

10. Added the GSM sound compression format (the "Voice - General" tab). GSM sound files are twice as little as the ADPCM format files.

August 6, 2002. VentaFax 5.1 (Build 10) Released

Added new features:

The Business Version

1. The Log Book: you can now set new reports for "protected" messages received, one report per each personal mailbox (see SET_PROTECTED <number> operation description in The Answering Machine Remote Control Script Editor/Basic Operations section of the VentaFax Help).

All Versions

1. Added Self-Mode support for USR Message modem series. Voice and/or facsimile messages received by such a modem in the Self-Mode can be automatically downloaded to a computer both on VentaFax loading and by clicking a special button. Self-Mode modem operation parameters can be specified in the special tab. For example, you can upload an answering machine greeting announcement, memory overflow announcement, etc to a modem.
2. The Message Manager: added a built-in facsimile message editor.
3. The Main Application: added new "Open" button to simplify facsimile message preparation.
4. With the same purpose, added "Documents" group in the file selection window. This option filters the most commonly used document file types (*.DOC, *.RTF, *.TXT, *.XLS, *.PDF).
5. Modem log, if enabled, will not expand indefinitely. When larger than 2M, modem log file will be renamed to *.OLD, and a new modem log will be created.
6. The Phone Book: in the Name field, you can now set a sorting method irrespectively from data presentation style selected for this field. Although both first and last names can be selected for the Name field view, sorting can be performed by last name only. For example,

Cathy Shine
Ben Short
Andrew Smith

7. Opening the delivery time mask editing window now starts with a time mask selected for a given scheduled delivery task. Earlier the first time mask in the list had been displayed first, thus causing some confusion.
8. Entering a phone number in the main panel of the Main Application in an "(area code) phone number" style now forces the program to take the telephony location into account. For example, entering the (095) 1234567 phone number from Moscow telephony location will now result in dialing the 1234567 number only. Should this phone number be dialed from any other area, the 8W0951234567 number will be dialed instead. Earlier entering such a phone number resulted in dialing of all the digits entered (i.e., 0951234567).
9. Added new parameter: Toll Saver mode. In an auto-answer mode, if no new messages were received, VentaFax will answer not on the ring specified in program settings, but two rings later. For example, when answer on the 2nd ring is set, the Toll Saver mode is enabled and no new messages were received, the program will answer not on the second ring, but on the forth one. This may come in handy when you make a charged telephone call to check your own answering machine.

May 29, 2002. VentaFax 5.1 (Build 9) Released

Added new features:

1. Added "Send via Email" function. This starts the default email program and opens "New Message" window with message file already attached.
2. The Main Application: added new "Open" button to simplify facsimile message preparation.
3. With the same purpose, added "Documents" group in the file selection window. This option filters the most commonly used document file types (*.doc, *.rtf, *.txt, *.xls, *.pdf).
4. Added call discrimination (adaptive answer) mode. A detected call ring can be transferred to an awaiting application, such as the Windows Remote Access Server (RAS).
5. Added "Switch to remote control mode immediately after answering a call" parameter.
6. The Scheduler: added new "Purge Outbox" button. Clicking this button makes the program to search the Outbox for files with no records assigned both in the Scheduler and in the Log Book. Such files can be deleted or moved to the special "Orphaned" folder.
7. Special icon will appear near phone number on the display if a calling card is used for long distance calls. Clicking this icon temporarily disables a calling card use.
8. Added new /td: command line option. Starting the program with this option, for example ventafax.exe /td:1234567, forces immediate dialing of 1234567 number. This command is similar to "Dial the number" button on the fax set.
9. Added "Tip of the Day" window.
10. Added new function to VentaFax uninstall program. Now you can restore default program settings, as well as program group and shortcuts.
11. Clicking on VentaFax Engine Icon in the System Tray now pops up application menu.
12. Script Editor: added syntax check mode.
13. Script Editor: added script tracing mode. During tracing process, you can imitate tone commands input and watch the results.

February 14, 2002. VentaFax 5.0 Released

New in Version 5.0 as Compared to Previous Version (v.4.43)

User Interface

The first thing that will strike a user of VentaFax v.4.xx is a significant change in the Main Application window design. First, the fax machine image has been upgraded. Besides a contemporary look, it now contains an answering machine control panel. Second, in addition to the conventional button toolbar, the text menu and application tree were added to a left part of the main window. Not only it provides fast access to any application included in the package, but also allows selecting files for loading in those applications, for example, a recipient phone book.

By the way, you can change the Main Application window appearance by means of the skin mechanism provided.

The other VentaFax applications' control elements have been upgraded in a similar way.

32-bit Version

This is the first true 32-bit VentaFax version. In particular, in means that the program cannot run under MS Windows 3.1 and 3.11, as well as in Win16 window of OS/2 platforms. Also, we made no efforts to provide compatibility with Win32S extension for 16-bit Windows versions. The program has been tested under Windows 95 (OSR2), 98, ME, NT 4.0, 2000 and XP platforms.

Apart from conventional advantages like the use of "long" file and folder names, transition to 32-bit version provides faster operation of serial ports drivers, which was critical in the previous versions. For example, the use of some modems voice functions with 16-bit port drivers under Windows NT and Windows 2000 limited the sound playback quality.

32-bit Windows Telephony API

Now the program can be configured in such a way that modem would be accessed as a device described in Windows configuration instead of direct serial port access (although the latter option is still available). In particular, this means that the program, when in auto-answer mode, would not occupy the modem port. Thus, the modem would remain accessible to other applications.

The other effect of using TAPI is an opportunity to avoid duplication between general Windows settings and VentaFax settings. Specifically, VentaFax now uses "telephony location" (actually, the user's country code and area code) stored in Windows settings, including current dialing type settings (tone or pulse) and calling cards information.

New Application - the VentaFax Script Editor

The new application is a specialized text editor that provides a convenient environment for development of VentaFax DTMF-signals remote control scripts.

Some Changes in VentaFax Applications

  • Further to the traditional Message Transmission window, the Message Wizard has been added. For inexperienced user the process of sending out messages now would be much easier.
  • The message to be sent can be obtained directly from scanner (or some other TWAIN device) with just a click on a Scan button in the Message Wizard window.
  • Now you have the unified Log Book of reception and transmission operations. In the Log Book, you can create reports with one or another criteria, export these reports (or the entire log) to text files with separating characters and open them in external applications, for example, MS Excel, for further processing. We plan to add similar features to scheduled delivery application as well.
  • Now you can run VentaFax Engine as an NT/2000/XP service.

Changes in Home Version

Added scheduled delivery option. Unlike Business version, the number of delivery tasks in Home version cannot exceed 3. This is insufficient for mass deliveries, of course, though quite enough to send several faxes at a specified time.
