Operating system

VentaFax runs under the 32-bit MS Windows operating system family (98, Me, NT4.0, 2000, 2003 Server, XP, Vista) and 64-bit MS Windows operating system family (2003 Server, XP, Vista).

Introductory comments

The figures given below do NOT take into account the additional requirements imposed on the system by modems that utilize CPU resources intensively (i.e. winmodems, softmodems and USB-modems). This can be very important in estimating requirements, since a portion of the data processing is performed by the modem driver (not by the modem itself), which is software running under Windows. In addition, these estimates do NOT take into account the impact that additional memory-resident applications (e.g. antivirus monitors) would have on memory usage and CPU performance. The data on processor clock speed is provided based on Intel processors or AMD processor equivalents in terms of rating (i.e. the clock speed specified in the name of the processor).

1-Line versions

Black-and-white faxes and sound

VentaFax does not place any extra demands on RAM or processor speed as long as you are only receiving and sending black-and-white faxes and voice messages. In this case the basic requirements are simply the standard ones placed on the operating system and modem.

Color Faxes

Color faxes are supported only in Windows 2000, 2003, XP and Vista. To work with color faxes you will need at least an 800 MHz processor and 256 Mb of RAM or more.

Multi-Line versions

The data given in the tables below specifies system requirements at maximum load, that is, when all lines are used simultaneously. We calculated these figures from the standpoint of minimizing the probability of error at peak CPU load. These requirements apply only to the VentaFax Engine. If other applications are running concurrently with the reception or transmission of faxes or voice messages, the requirements may need to be increased.

Black-and-white faxes and sound

Each extra line requires an additional 9 Mb of RAM and a 60 MHz increase in processor speed when compared with the requirements for single-line versions.
The minimum requirements for working with black-and-white faxes and voice messages are given in the table (for Windows XP).

Color faxes

Each extra line requires an additional 30 Mb of RAM.
The minimum requirements for working with color faxes are given in the table (for Windows XP).

To ensure maximum reliability of a multi-line version during intensive operation, please follow these recommendations:

• use hard disks with an average random read/write speed of 5 Mb or higher;
• perform disk caching;
• do not store transmission and reception folders (available under the tab Folders and files - Service folders) on network drives;
• turn off energy-saving features available on modern computers which slow down processor speed.
